RIDING BELIZE
with the Litas vancouver
There’s nothing quite like adventuring with your crew. The Litas Vancouver recently journeyed to Central America to ride, explore, and bask in the beauty that is Belize. Keep reading to learn more about their trip , plus discover how you too can experience Belize by motorbike.
Alternate adventures:
Emma Cases recently celebrated her 13th year in Hopkins, a village in Belize where she is the founder of The Litas Belize and owner of Alternate Adventures. Her company fills a unique niche being the only motorcycle rental company in the country; with a decade of experience of self-guided adventure tours, she possesses a wealth of knowledge waiting to be shared. Emma has also spent the last several years building and adding to her Crash Pad guest accommodation that is conveniently situated above the rental garage and makes it the perfect place to stay while exploring Belize.
We recently booked a trip with ten women from The Litas Vancouver, and with Emma’s expertise and passion, it made for an incredibly unique and unforgettable experience. For anyone considering a similar adventure, Belize’s tropical climate, diverse wildlife and stunning natural beauty right on the Caribbean Sea make it an excellent destination. With the support of businesses like Alternate Adventures and Crash Pad, travelers can experience the country’s wonders in comfort and expert guidance.
WHy belize?
Belize truly has it all - from the stunning coastline of the Caribbean Sea to the lush jungles, ancient Mayan ruins and the world’s second largest barrier reef. There are 30 direct flights from major cities (such as Seattle, Calgary, Toronto, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and Houston) making it very accessible; in addition, English is the official language and USD is accepted, which certainly makes things easier for travelers.
Where do you stay?
Crash Pad is located in the coastal village of Hopkins, which is about a two hour shuttle from the airport. There are 5 rooms with 10 beds total, but has the capacity to fit more if you are willing to share double beds. The common area has a large rooftop deck with lounge chairs and hammocks, plus an outdoor kitchen equipped with a fridge, sink, microwave & coffee maker. Hopkins features a rustic local beach vibe with many mom and pop coffee shops, restaurants, and bars within walking distance. The locals are incredibly friendly, and the food and drinks are delicious and affordable.
what bikes are available?
Alternate Adventures has a dozen four stroke dirt bikes available that range from 150cc to 250cc. Our group's riders ranged from 5’2” to 5’11” and only ONE of us actually owns a dirt bike back home. We could never have imagined a better place to learn and grow our skillset– and you better believe we are all now looking to trade our street bikes for adventure bikes! There are also helmets and bar bags available for rent if you would rather not pack yours.

How many people should we have?
Renting out the entire guest accommodation and fleet of motorbikes provides a more private and streamlined experience. This would require a group of 9-11 women, allowing Emma to be your personal tour guide, complete with her extensive knowledge of the area. However, for those who prefer to explore at their own pace, Alternate Adventures is well equipped with resources to help guests plan their own routes, parks, swimming holes, and unforgettable adventures.

Dirt Bike Pants - These are highly recommended; whether you find them used or borrow a pair, it’ll be worth it. They’ll be easy to slip on after jumping in the water and be cool on the road.
Hydration Pack - Keep in mind this country is hot, and you might be getting into some technical terrain. You’ll need to stay well hydrated for a comfortable journey.
Boots - If you do not own dirt bike boots, bring a pair of boots that at minimum cover your ankles.
Jerseys- Ideally you want an airflow armored shirt, but they can be pricey. Alternatively, we suggest bringing jerseys so you stay cool but are protected from the sun.
Gloves - A pair of light gloves to protect your precious hands from many hours in the sun.
BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO BELIZE:
Dry season is from January until May, averaging 28-32 degrees Celsius (82-90 Fahrenheit) ; however, you can absolutely ride 12 months out of the year.
Must do’s:
Bioluminescence Tour
Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef
