Interview: G R A C E
We’ve been inspired by Grace for awhile, from her unique style to the way she’s decided to live her life - on her own terms.
This year she and her business partner, Krista, opened Holistic Salon in downtown Denver, Colorado. They’ve created a unique space where women can feel loved, embraced, and sexy as hell with amazing hair. When they’re not in the salon, they’re out riding & running @thelitasdenver together.
We sat down with Grace to find out how she got into riding, how she decided to start her own business, and get her philosophy on life. Here’s how it went…
Q: How long have you been riding and what bike do you ride?
Grace: I've only been riding for 2.5 years + I have a 2017 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob...holy cow I feel like I've been riding for way longer than that!
Q: What made you decide you wanted to get a motorcycle? How did that all go down?
Grace: I wanted to get a bike because it was something I had always thought was cool as a kid + just thought it would be freedom to just pick up + go. I moved back to Colorado from Barcelona + taking my learners class was the first thing on the list. Two weeks after passing I bought a '91 Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster off Craigslist. It's been everything I ever thought it would be but better.
Q: Do you feel like getting a motorcycle changed your life? What does riding mean to you?
Grace: Honestly it's changed everything. This was something I had done for myself. One of the first really big decisions I've made in womanhood that was something strictly for me. By doing that it's led me on one hell of a journey of self discovery, not only on the road but in my day to day life. I don't think I'd be the woman I am today with out riding.
Q: You just opened a super rad salon in downtown Denver called Holistic Salon with your bestie and co-founder of The Litas Denver, Krista. How did the two of you meet?
Grace: Yes! We love our little spot + she is the best co owner I could have ever, ever asked for! We met when she started renting a chair at a salon I was working at downtown...she walked in the salon the second day of meeting her. She had just parked her Sportster + came in with her helmet in hand. Basically you could say I feel in love with her instantly that day haha. Now we joke that she is basically my wife, I spend more time with her than anyone else.
Q: What was it like deciding to take that wild crazy step of starting your own business?!
Grace: I had always wanted to own my own business because I have to be in an environment where I feel compelled to create + I hate being told what to do haha I wanted to be the boss. It was pretty intense, a lot to figure out because Krista + I never went to school for business. I just set a goal and a vision for myself, started branding like crazy, I found Krista who choose to be my partner and we just basically started walking though every door and we weren't going to stop till one closed...none of those doors closed, so now we are here! 10 months in as new business owners!
Q: What advice do you have for other women who might be wanting to start a business or venture of their own?
Grace: My advice is to first and foremost speak your goal or vision out into existence. I feel like just putting it out there regardless if other people think it's silly or too risking, the vision has to be casted. Then continue to follow through with the work needed to make it happen and just keep going!
Q: Do you have any personal philosophies you live your life by?
Grace: My personal philosophy - having a heart of Thanksgiving always AND as Keith Greene once said "Do your best, pray that it is blessed and let Jesus take care of the rest."
Q: Do you have any advice for women who are thinking about buying a motorcycle?
Grace: Take a learners class no matter if you've been riding for 15 years or 0 days. Don't be so scared of that highway and always wear your helmet!
